THE SENIOR CENTER, centrally located in the downtown area of Newark, near City Hall, is easily reached by public transportation and accessible to the handicapped. The Gerontology Center operates year round, five days per-week, Monday through Friday from 9:00am-5:00pm. The program provides Outreach, Information and Assistance, Referrals, Recreational, Nutritional Services, Educational training and other social services, particularly to the frail homebound and impoverished minority senior. A congregate nutritional program funded by the City of Newark provides lunch and a snack.

The Home Friend Program, funded by the Essex County Division in Aging, provides chore services to frail homebound clients. Outreach is an integral component of the Newark Day Senior Program. Seniors are identified, located and informed of the specific Outreach Services and are encouraged to utilize the benefits and programs that are available to them. Our most important objective is to encourage seniors to remain active mentally, physically and emotionally and to inform them of services available for their special needs and concern.

Newark Day Center has a proven track record and vast experience in providing services to older adults. For over twenty years, the Essex County Division on Aging has designated it as the East Ward Focal Point Agency.
